Senior Online Product Services Engineer

Hellbent Games is in the process of growing our talented team to build a high calibre Unreal 4 action game. We are an independent development studio located in beautiful Burnaby, BC, adjacent to restaurants, public transportation and nature.

This job involves development and maintenance of services and infrastructure for online gaming such as player progression, cloud saves, account management, logins, friend requests, party and guild systems, voice chat, profile statistics and online database backup and recovery.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a talented team to develop scalable, performant online services for our games
  • Implement new online features and services to support the needs of players, developers and analytics teams
  • Improve game services availability, reliability and failure tolerance
  • Perform research to acquire new knowledge necessary to meet both current requirements as well as evolve and improve upon existing architecture
  • Develop unit and integration test code to validate service completeness and correctness
  • Mentor and educate other engineers on the team in the correct usage and maintenance procedures for the online services

 

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in a related field
  • Advanced understanding of C++
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Javascript
  • Prior development work on distributed systems and client/server architectures
  • Strong data-structure, logic and algorithm skills
  • Knowledge of network and server security issues
  • Database development experience (MySQL, Oracle, etc.)
  • Self-motivated and able to break down highly complex tasks into actionable items
  • Enthusiasm for creating an outstanding service experience for end users

 

Pluses:

  • A degree in Computer Science  or related field
  • Experience with cloud/virtualization/containerization technologies and infrastructure
  • Experience with protocol and API design
  • Experience with performance analysis and code optimization
